Elizabeth Lyman Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2007.
Our dear mother, Elizabeth (Beth) Myers Lyman, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007 in Payson at the age of 89.
She was born April 11, 1918 in Panguitch, Utah, the fifth daughter to Richard James and Jennie Dean Wilcock. At a young age Beth and her family moved to Spring Lake, Utah where she has called home for over 80 years.
While living in Spring Lake, she met and married her sweetheart, Grant Mason Lyman, June 26, 1937 in Payson, Utah. Their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, March 5, 1941. They were married 51 beautiful years before his passing away, August 17, 1988.
Our mother praised so often her parents for her good upbringing, her husband for his loving and giving nature, and her children for the compassion and love they gave to others. If we have shown compassion and love, or goodness in any form, it is because our of our angel mother. Her life was dedicated to serving others and her Savior. Mother and dad had four Lamanite daughters that have lived with them, and an ever-open door to any niece, nephew, cousin or friend needing a place to stay. She made wonderful pies, loved sewing, was invigorated every spring by planting her beautiful flowers and spent entire summer days bottling fruit and vegetables. Her occupation by choice was a homemaker and mother. She served in the Primary as a counselor and as a teacher for more than 30 years, learning to love the most difficult child, and visiting teacher over 60 years. Mother and dad served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cebu, Philippines, one of the great joys in her life. She spent over 30 winters in St. George, ten with Dad and then on her own. She was looking forward to going there again this winter, hoping to engross herself in temple work and spending time with her choice friends.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; parents; five sisters, Ulala (Noel) Butler, Ardella (Ted) Bliss, Dean (Howard) Peery; Grace (Max) Elmer and Reta (Blaine) Gailey. She is survived by: five sons and a daughter, Alfred G., Kenvin M. (Sofia), Jennie Ruth (Ron) Alvey, Jay H., Brent R. (Susan), Ross M. (Amy); sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a foster son, Calvin Reese; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Dawn (Dale) Butterfield, Merla Bullock and Jessie Hartvigsen.
