I am shocked and sorry to hear about my friend Genie Rothman's passing. She was a wonderful person and very caring to all of her friends and clients. I worked in the same office building with her from approximately 2004 to 2006 in Delray Beach, Florida. It was a small office building and I frequently overheard her talking to clients in her kind, sympathetic voice on the phone. She did divorce and family law cases, which, as an attorney, I could never handle as there is too much conflict involved. She was adept at handling many difficult clients, many who just wanted to call and chit chat with her every day, just to talk. After awhile she would say to him or her, "Now now, Mr. Jones, remember I charge a lot per hour and you don't want me to run up a big bill talking to you, do you?" That would cut them short and she would be on to the next phone call.

I remember we had just moved to Delray Beach from Alaska and were unfamiliar with hurricanes. During the first one we experienced in 2004 it was very scary and as our new house was near the canal (and hers directly on the canal facing it) I called her late at night to ask her if the water was rising. I was so scared our neighborhood was going to flood and so I asked her if she could see out her window how far the water had risen. She looked outside and told me not to worry, all was fine.

She was not afraid to fight for a client in court, and I can remember one time where she took on a case against a circuit court judge in Delray Beach and appealed his decision. This is not something an attorney does lightly. But fearless Genie appealed the judge's decision and won on appeal.

Genie was a kind person and talked a lot about her beloved daughter and her horse.

I lost track of her through the years when I moved to a new office, unfortunately.
Again, I am sad about her passing and send love and prayers to her in heaven.

Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.

My Deepest Condolences To The Families of Edwin and John, I recently was told of Genie's passing and I am truly saddened. The moment I met Genie in Junior High School, I knew we would be best of friends. Her exuberant personality was infectious and a day never passed without her making me smile. Such a sudden loss, at a vibrant time of her life. The moments we shared together will always be special to me and she will never be forgotten.
