I was introduced to Liz many years ago by presidential historian Dr. Robert Ferrell, who assisted me in obtaining my research credentials at the HST Library. Over the years, I spent many days at the Library, a great deal of it in conversation with Liz, and that was ALWAYS a most enjoyable experience. Liz was one of the most thoughtful, kind, and helpful persons I have ever met. I was tremendously saddened when she had to leave the Library, and a little piece of me died when I learned of her death. That was how highly I regarded her. I miss knowing she is not there with her ready smile.

In 1981 while researching an automobile used by the White House during President Truman's administration I spoke with Ms. Safly. Ms.Safly was incredibly kind and helpful. In a few days I received a note from her with information about the automobile. A few days later I received another note (signed Liz) with additional information. This past weekend, while going through some old files, I found her notes from 1981 and I again was reminded of Ms. Safly's kindness. I had no idea of Ms. Safly's age but it was my hope to find her alive and well so I could send her copies of the notes and again thank her for being so kind. In my efforts to locate Ms. Safly I was saddened to read of her recent passing. I wish I had found those notes sooner....I have read the transcript of the oral history Ms. Safly recorded. I have also read the heartfelt words of her friends, co-workers and people she helped. Ms. Safly's oral history and all that you folks have said certainly confirms my impression that Ms. Safly was kind, gentle lady and wonderful representative of President Truman, the Library and the community.

Liz was one of my favorite people. The Truman Library will not be the same without her.

We met Liz at Adams Street where our mother was also a resident. We truly enjoyed our visits with Liz, especially during dinner where many stories were shared. Our mother was released in June, but has never forgotten Liz or the kindhearted lady she was. Liz was truly a special lady and we are so very happy we met her!

I worked at the Truman Library part-time while I was in high school and college. Liz was always someone I admired and a role model for me. She was intelligent, kind, dignified and had a great sense of humor. I wish every young woman would have a Liz in her life to see that everything is possible with hard work and passion. Thank you Liz! You will never be forgotten.

She was a wonderful lady and a great friend, beloved by a generation of Truman scholars and admired by her colleagues at the Truman Library.
