The family of Elizabeth Muir Speight is saddened to announce her passing on February 26, 2025, at the age of 92. Her parents (John & Margaret (Gault) McFall) emigrated from Scotland in the 1920's and settled in New Rochelle, New York where Elizabeth (Betty) hails from. Betty wasn't happy when her parents decided to move to Akron, Ohio to join other family in the 1950's back when Akron was the rubber capital of the world and you could smell the rubber miles before arriving.
Betty soon found employment and eventually started work at the Akron Beacon Journal where she met her husband, Ed Speight. Their four children, Jack, Kevin Eddie and Debi were raised in Firestone Park and were grateful to have Mom to come home to everyday after school.
As the kids got older, Betty returned to the workforce and worked until retirement at Ohio Edison, working in the kitchen.
Betty was a member of Oak Hill Presbyterian Church and had been a long-time member of Firestone Park Presbyterian Church. Betty has lived at Windsor in North Canton for the past three years, where she loved and was loved by the residents and staff. Betty had a passion for reading, crocheting, bingo, and burning through Word Finds.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband Ed in 2016 after 60 years of marriage and son Ed in 2024. She is survived by her children, Jack (Joanne), Kevin (Paula), Eddie and Debi Secrest (Brian), nine grandchildren and 3-1/2 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 7, 2025, from 5 to 7 PM and Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10 to 11 AM at the Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St., Akron OH 44301 where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM. A luncheon reception will follow the services, and private interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Breast Cancer Foundation or the Alzheimer's Association.

Betty is already greatly missed here at the Windsor. Her bright light, sense of humor, and kindness blessed us all. She had such a a great eye when doing crafts and loved playing Kings in the Corner because of cherished memories playing with her beloved family. It was a privilege to know her.
