Elizabeth Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home - Weber City on Aug. 27, 2025.
Elizabeth "Nell" Taylor, 100, passed away August 19th, 2025. She was born in Hiltons, Virginia on May 22nd, 1925 to Lessie and Bordie Bright. One of six children of a large family, Nell loved to be in community with others. From an early age, she cooked and cared for those around her. She drew people in with her beauty, humor, and fun-loving personality. Nell married PFC Lindsey Taylor and had their first son, Stanley, during WWII. The family then followed her husband's career to Louisville before settling in Fort Wayne. During this time, she helped with the family business, in addition to being a homemaker. Lindsey was a fiddle player, so the family became involved in the local country music scene. She loved hostessing and making food for the musicians, as well as collecting autographs during concerts. The family welcomed their second son, Kenneth, in 1960. She worked for fifteen years with FWCS in Food and Nutrition Services, before retiring in 1996. She remained active in her church and loved volunteering with the VFW 2457 Women's Auxiliary. Despite the distance from "down home," her relationships with her family were treasured. Weekly phone calls, cards, and letters kept Nell in touch with those far away, and their reunions were always filled with food, music, and love. She will be remembered dearly for her sharp wit, style, and loving charm.

Elizabeth Nell Taylor was preceded in death by her parents, Lessie and Bordie Bright; her husband Lindsey Taylor; her sisters, Bernice Bays and Faye Taylor; her brothers, Fred Bright, Kelly Bright, and Paul Bright; her daughter in law Rita Taylor; her niece, Barbara Carter; her nephew, Donnie Taylor; her granddaughter, Diana Smith; and great nephew, James Carter.

She is survived by her brother, Johnny Bright; her sons, Stanley Taylor and Kenny Taylor; sisters in law, Lottie Bright and Iva Nell McCracken; daughter in law, Lisa Taylor; six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and neighbors from 11am to 1pm on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Scott County Funeral Home in Weber City, VA. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Roger Vineyard officiating.

A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
