Elizabeth Tinker affectionately known as "Betty or Betty Ann" passed away on November 6, 2024. She was born to the union of Roger B Major Senior and Carolyn Stabler Bonner Major on February 6, 1948. Betty received her formal education through Chicago Public School (CPS), Charles S Deneen Elementary school, Parker high school, and Woodrow Wilson Junior college. Betty received a Bachelors Degree at Chicago Teachers College in 1968. Prior to completing her degree, she was blessed with her first child Peter Matthew Major. After, she landed a teacher position at Ruggles Elementary school. Two years later, she had her first daughter Cherise Amy Major. She was transferred to Delano Elementary School. Betty also obtained a Masters Degree while teaching and raising a family. Betty enjoyed teaching third grade most of all, she also taught at Martin A Ryerson Elementary school on the west side of Chicago for many years. In 1971 she met the love of her life Frederick Tinker and on July 27, 1974 they were united in marriage together. They created 8 loving children, Elizabeth, Frederick Jr., Nikia, Harrison, Richard, Michael, Kevin, and the most loving smartest brilliant handsome one of them all John.
Betty took great joy in teaching thousands of children over a span of 50 years. Betty was a reading specialist that traveled to different schools to teach until she retired. Betty also took great pride and expressing love to her family and every person's life she came in contact with. Betty's hobbies included cooking, reading, playing cards and going to the riverboat with Frederick.
Elizabeth "Betty" leaves her husband of 50 years Frederick Sr.,: children, Peter, Cherise, Elizabeth, Frederick Jr., Nikia, Harrison, Richard, Michael, Kevin, and John; Sisters, Meredith Phelps (Jerome), Bonnie Major; Brothers: Roger Major Jr., Roy Major; 70 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; a host of family nieces nephews relatives and friends of the family.
Preceding Betty in death were her mother, Carolyn Major; father, Roger Major Sr.; brothers, Robin, Ronald and Robert Major; sisters-in-law, Kay Major, and Angela Harris; grandchildren, Mark Wise, Gery Rucker Jr.; and Kevin Tinker Jr.
Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Rd., Ft. Wayne, IN 46804 with calling from 11 am to 1 pm.
