Elizabeth S. Yannett, 94, passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2026. Known to her family and friends as Betty, she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend.
Betty was born in Niagara Falls, Canada, to parents who immigrated from Scotland in the early 1900s. She grew up in St. Albans, Queens, and later settled in Seaford, New York with her husband, Walter, where she resided for the past 66 years.
After attending secretarial school, Betty began her career as an executive secretary for Standard Oil (now Exxon). She later devoted herself to raising her family, and returned to work as secretary for the principal at Jacob Gunther Elementary School, where she worked for approximately 15 years.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter Yannett. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy, and her partner, Elise Brokaw; her son, Bruce, and daughter-in-law, Jessica; and her three grandchildren, Amanda, Gregory, and Elise, each of whom she showered with love.
Betty will be remembered for her devotion to her family and friends, her quick wit, and her sense of humor. Her kindness, strength, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
