Ella Jean Evans, age 99, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 4:05 a.m. in Sunset Home.
Ella Jean was born on June 28, 1926 in Coatsburg, IL, a daughter of George Christian and Clara Louise Heubner Tieken. On July 3, 1948 she married Edward Francis Evans in St, Andrew's Rectory in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2013.
Ella Jean was a 1944 graduate of Maplewood High School in Camp Point, IL. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago where she graduated from business college. Over the years, she worked for a number of businesses as both a secretary and a bookkeeper. Ella Jean also studied interior design, and she worked for a while in that industry as well. She returned to Quincy in 1989.
In her spare time, she enjoyed golfing with her husband at Westview Golf Course.
Ella Jean was a member of Church of St. Peter.
Survivors include two sisters: Norma Buffington and Dorothy Ann Spratt, both of Quincy; two Godsons: Stanley Wilkos, Jr. of Chicago, IL and Steve Wilkos of CT; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Edward, Ella Jean was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Merle Tieken.
Visitation: 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Church of St. Peter with Monsignor Leo Enlow officiating.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, IL
