During the early morning of November 14, 2025, God looked down and saw that his humble servant had gotten tired. He blessed her to live 103 and a half long years and God decided to bring her home to rest in perfect peace.

Ella Pearl Hamp was born on May 24, 1922. She was one of eleven siblings born to the late Mr. Joe Nathan Hawes and the late Mrs. Lois Rebecca Norman Hawes.

Ella was a lifelong and faithful member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church and attended until her health declined. Even though she was no longer able to attend, she supported her Church.

One of her famous mottos was, “I eat good, I sleep good, and I don’t worry about a thing.” If you asked her how she was doing; her reply would be, “good, good, good!”

She attended the Ebenezer Church School and completed the 10th grade, which was the highest-level people of color were allowed to achieve during that era in Lincoln County. Students who wished to continue their education had to travel to other schools in different counties.

At an early age, Ella married Albert Hamp, and they moved to Augusta, Georgia. While living in Augusta, Ella was mostly a homemaker. She concluded her employment with Menardi Southern Corporation, where she worked until her retirement. Later in life, she returned to her roots, Lincolnton, Georgia.

Her hobbies were baking, gardening, and spending hours talking on the phone to her family and friends. In fact, she was a small-time entrepreneur. She baked cakes and pies and sold them from her home. Her favorite hobby was growing beautiful flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Nathan Hawes and Lois Rebecca Norman Hawes and siblings: Jess Hawes, Clara Hawes Belcher, Herman Hawes, Helen Hawes Sutton, Mary Hawes Jones, Joe Otis Hawes, Peyton Hawes, Lonnie Hawes, Melba Hawes Nunally and Arlesia Verman Hawes.

She leaves to mourn her passing, four loving and caring children: Leverta H. Elam (Harvey) of Lincolnton, Georgia; Charles A. Hamp (Barbara) of North Augusta, South Carolina; Lois H. Trumpler (Isaiah) of Augusta, Georgia and Terry H. Simpkins (David) of Hephzibah, Georgia; six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves to cherish numerous cousins and two special cousins who assisted with her care, Dr. Alcye Hawes and Ms. Ida Johnson.

Lastly, two special friends, Mrs. Julia Mae Leverett, who kept her supplied with sweets, and Mrs. Susie Barksdale, who visited her often and always called to check on her.
