Talking to Cousin Ella was ALWAYS a joy. We met face to face when she was touring with the Wiz in Dallas and I would call periodically. Thank you for giving me insight on family information and loving me and my family as well. She even connected a friend of mine with some backstage passes to see a Broadway show! I´m gonna miss that voicemail and hearing your laugh. I finally made it to NYC and you are gone.
Rest well and give my love to your cousin (my grandfather and his children and my grandmother for me.

I was lucky to have had the chance to talk with Ella for half an hour on the phone 3 years ago. She was very kind and fun to talk to. I wanted to talk to her again but her illness interrupted and I sadly heard the news about her passing. She was really something, a talented and sweet lady. Rest in Peace Ella! Tibi

I remember seeing Mrs. Ella Mitchell Holt in the movie Big Momma house , I heard this beautiful voice from my television in the living room , when I walked in my living room I looked at my television & this lady was singing , Mrs. Ella has this beautiful voice , her voice reminded me of when my great-grandmother used to sing to me .

I never got a chance to meet Ella Mitchell, but I was so fortunate to see her as Evillene in the original production of The Wiz both in L.A. (1976) and N.Y.C. (1978). She was magnificent in the role, and as a young kid I was enthralled by the whole production, and especially by Ms. Ella. The Wiz was the first Broadway show to which I was exposed, and it made such a lasting impression that the business side of theatre became my profession. As a fan I will never forget her!

I have fond memories with her, I remember she use to always want me to dance as a little girl. I didn´t want to be cause I was chubby but she would say don´t nobody want to see bones hitting together. I love and will miss her

I met Ella when my mother took me to meet her back in 1988..I was 19 years old with my 4 month old baby. We called her Madea. I lived with her youngest son Boom...1st time I met an uncle younger than me..he was 13 at the time...I loved her voice and she made me laugh. She met all 5 of my children. She even started giving my youngest daughter vocal lessons. I'm gonna miss her saying "See watt I'm shaying" with her eyes wide..that always made me laugh...Even though she wasn't my moms mother.. She was my grandfathers wife so she'll always be my grandmother at heart.. I'll forever miss her. Sleep in Peace Madea

Ella Mitchell was a great singer whose career spanned gospel music's golden age. I had the great pleasure of interviewing her and loved her stories. She knew everybody, worked with most, and delighted all.

Ms. Ella was a true performance artist. On August 17, 2017 I had the pleasure of visiting with and interviewing her. After Ms. Ella answered my final question I asked if she would sing a little something for me, I suggested No Bad News. Thank you for indulging me. As an appreciator of great performers, you serenading me as I sat at your feet is a memory I will treasure. Listening to my recording of that moment just produced chills across my back. R.I.P Ms. Ella
