Ella Kay Poston, 92, widow of Reo B. Poston passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.
Mrs. Poston was born in Florence County on August 6, 1931, to the late Nackman and Ella Maybelle Poston. She was raised in Hanna, SC where she met the love of her life, married him at 15 years old, and stuck by his slide for 63 years. They built a life together in
Hemingway, SC where they were blessed with raising 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was employed by Wellman Industries, Inc. where she worked in the Wool Dept. for 39 years. Ella Kay dedicated her life to serving the Lord and was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church. She had a spiritual energy that came from her commitment to her relationship with the Lord. She sought the Lord through her daily Bible study and dedicated prayer life. She never went to bed with out singing "Jesus Loves Me," which was a personal act honorably witnessed by her family.
Mrs. Ella Kay was affectionally known as "Mama" and "Nannie". Her greatest joy in life was her family with nothing making her happier than having all of her people on "her hill". Her expressive love for everyone was experienced by all who entered her long driveway or crossed paths with her. Her kitchen was always open and she always said, "If you are hungry, please go get you something to eat." She had a love for nature and enjoyed planting flowers, tending to her chickens, and rocking in her rocking chair underneath her carport. She and her daughters found joy in being together, especially when antiquing and thrift shopping.
Ella Kay is survived by her two daughters, Karen(Joe) Ard and Susan(Tommy) Cook; a Son-in-Law, Sam Thompson; a Daughter-in-Law, Cindy Poston; eight Grandchildren, Clint Thompson, Patrick Cook, Jason Baxley, Kelly Hucks, Wade(Rachel) Cook, Kristen(Jeffery) Richardson, Ron(Emmalee) Poston, Erin(Jonathan) York; seventeen Great-grandchildren, Jordan (Shay), Colin, Preston, Caroline(Grant), Cameron, Cain(Ansley), Kaylyn, Kara Emily, Briley, Carson, Jenna, Mckinlee, Conner, Evie, Reese, Brynnleigh, Kadence; and two Great-Great- grandchildren, Montana and Callie Grace.
Mrs. Poston was preceded in death by her children, Jennie P. Thompson and Ronnie L. Poston Sr.; a Great-granddaughter, Anna Grace Cook; siblings, Mavine Poston, Mary Lois Hanna, James P. Poston, Margie P. Stephans, and Patricia Weaver.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Union United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, April 12, 2024, at Union United Methodist Church, 8160 Rosehill Road
Hemingway, SC 29554. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
