Ella Marie (Hoger) Tomanek
BISMARCK - Ella Marie (Hoger) Tomanek, 97, of Bismarck, passed away January 25, 2024.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, ND with Pastor Phil Leer as officiant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 29, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Ella was born March 13, 1926, to Arno and Margie Hoger. Ella and her brothers, William (Bill), Lawrence, and Kenneth were raised on a farm north of Judson, North Dakota.
Ella graduated from New Salem High School and went on for further studies at Dickinson College (DSU). Ella taught at a country school grades 1-8 near her farm. She also worked as an accountant for Cloverdale Company of Mandan. Later, she worked in food service for Mandan Public Schools.
While working at Cloverdale, Ella went on a double date with Roy Tomanek and her brother and his wife. It was a successful blind date because Roy and Ella were married December 7, 1948. Roy and Ella raised five boys, ElRoy, Gary, Vernon, Leslie (Barney), and Daniel, to have a love of country and community.
Ella welcomed five daughters-in-law to the family and was thrilled with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and showed that in so many ways: making and decorating fabulous cakes for all special events, knitting and crochet projects, her beautiful ceramic artwork; all of which she readily gave away as special unique gifts and great mementos.
Ella's faith was paramount in her life and she made sure her sons participated in religious schooling and honored significant church events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Because of her faith, Ella displayed an acceptance of life's positive and negative events in her life and grew to be a model to others in this endeavor.
Her family will miss her. Sons and wives, ElRoy and Jerilyn, Gary and Claudia, Vernon and Deb, Barney and Janel, and her daughter-in-law, Penny; loving grandchildren, Kristen, Michael, Jason, Jennifer, Chuck, Matt, Andy, Joe, Steven, and Danica; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Jonas, Derek, Mackinsey, Olivia, Jaxon, Scarlett, Evelynn, Ciara, Colton, Tayber, Landen, Camden, Carson, Aiden, Eisley; and great great-grandchild, Syre.
Ella is survived by her nieces and nephews, Eileen Gerl, Lorren, Larry, Brenda, Tammy, and Wendy; and her sister-in-law, Judy Hoger.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Dan; parents; brothers, William (Nickie), Lawrence (Dorothy), and Kenneth.
