With sadness, we announce the passing of Ellen Murphy Laplante of The Villages, FL, on March 13, 2026, at UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital, The Villages, FL.
Ellen lived life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend.
Ellen was born on May 24, 1947, in New York, New York to Charles and Hannah Murphy. She grew up in the Chelsea section of Manhattan and loved spending time with family and friends in the neighborhood. This is where many cherished, lifelong relationships and friendships began.
She graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School and then went on to receive a certificate of completion from Claremont Business School in New York. Ellen then enjoyed a successful career in healthcare marketing and public relations. This included a position as Marketing Director with Hospital Corporation of America.
Ellen lovingly married David Laplante on January 25, 1986. Ellen and David shared many wonderful years together, raising their family, living in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Florida. She enjoyed spending time gardening, cooking, sewing, making stained glass ornaments, and dancing.
In 2010 Ellen and David moved to The Villages, Florida where they loved evenings out enjoying the many restaurants, listening to music, and dancing.
Ellen was predeceased by her parents Charles and Hannah Murphy.
Ellen is survived by her husband David, her brother Tom, children Jennifer, Jill, Katrina, Christopher, and Dave, along with 5 grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, The Villages, FL on April 9th at 10:00AM with a luncheon reception to follow at the Nancy Lopez Country Club.
The family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers, friends honor Ellen’s memory through an act of kindness or a donation to UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital.
