IPSWICH - Ellen Frances Laughton (Woods), 83, of Ipswich, wife of the late Charles A. Laughton, passed away peacefully on November 22nd, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in West Roxbury on February 28, 1942, Ellen was the middle child of John Woods and Alice Woods. She grew up in Milton, Massachusetts, with her two sisters, Alice and Jeanne. A dedicated student, she graduated from Emmanuel College in 1963, later beginning a teaching career at Notre Dame Academy, where she taught for 20 years and was known for her patience and genuine love of teaching.
Ellen married Charles Laughton in July 1969, and together they built a life grounded in love and family. They raised their three children in Chelmsford and, for many years, spent their summers in Ipswich, a place Ellen cherished for its beauty and coastal charm. She loved the outdoors, frequently gardening, skiing, boating, or painting.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her gentle humor and thoughtfulness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Ellen is survived by her children: Christopher A. Laughton and his wife, Chendan, of Enfield, CT; Carrie Stackhouse and her husband, Scott, of Kennebunk, ME; and Cindy Cedrone and her husband, Mark, of Ipswich. She leaves six grandchildren: Charles and John Quimby; Sam and Ella Cedrone; Ella Stackhouse; and Calvin Laughton. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Alice Flynn and Jeanne Collins, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be celebrated at Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County St., Ipswich, MA on Saturday, November 29th, at 1:00PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at Cowles Cemetery, Town Farm Rd. Ipswich. Contributions may be made in Ellen's memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163 US. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
