Ellen Ruth Matus

Ellen Ruth Matus (nee Haasz), age 91, of Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in her home on November 7, 2025.

Born on April 1, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ellen was the daughter of William Wagner Haasz and Ellen Elizabeth Haasz. She was a devoted wife to the late Alexander Matus and the late Santos Rivera.

As a graduate of Overbrook High School her life's calling was providing a loving home for her 5 children and later as a foster mother to over 40 children.

Ellen was an active member in her local church activities and was a member of the Lions Club for over 50 years.

Ellen is survived by her brother, Francis Haasz, and is predeceased by 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Carol Hutchins, Alex Matus (Karen), David Matus (Robyn), June Fariss (Paul), Keith Matus (Nancy), and Arlene McGowan (Spencer). She is also survived by 14 cherished grandchildren and 10 cherished great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church located at 1119 Church Road, Oreland, PA 19075, on Friday, November 14 beginning at 10:30 AM. A memorial service will begin at 11:30 AM with interment following at Ivy Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oreland Evangelical Presbyterian Church earmarked for the Food Pantry.
