Ellen Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dial-Murray Funeral Home - Moncks Corner on Dec. 17, 2025.
Ellen Tisdale Smith, 69, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, December 17, 2025, in a Charleston hospital.

Born on September 28, 1956, in Moncks Corner, SC, Ellen was the cherished daughter of the late Emory Allen Tisdale and Walter Ellen Montgomery Tisdale. Throughout her life, Ellen was known for her warmth, dedication, and vibrant spirit.

Ellen's professional journey saw her excel in several roles. She once served as a manager at Spencer's, later becoming a teller supervisor for C&S Bank, and went on to support students as a staff member in the math lab at Chicora Elementary School. Ellen also managed Ticker's in Moncks Corner for a period, where her leadership and kindness touched many.

Ellen's passions enriched her life and the lives of those around her. She was a devoted animal lover, especially fond of her dogs, and found joy in reading and cheering for her beloved Clemson Tigers. Cruises were a favorite pastime, but nothing compared to the peace and happiness she found at her mountain home.

Ellen is survived by her husband, E. Julian Smith, Jr.; two sons, Edmund J. "Tre'" Smith, III, of North Charleston, and Justin M. Smith of Moncks Corner; four sisters, Estelle T. Frost of North Charleston, Deborah T. Brockman and her husband Mitch of Alcoa, TN, Elaine T. Hady and her husband Steve of Maryville, TN, and Linda E. Tisdale of Summerville; a brother, W. Emory "Rusty" Tisdale of Bonneau; and a cherished grandson, Edmund J. "Lian" Smith, IV.

Her memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2026, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until the hour of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the MUSC Foundation, Attn: MUSC Children's Hospital, 59 Bee St., Charleston, SC 29425.

Ellen will be remembered for her unwavering love, her generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her. Her legacy of caring and kindness will live on in her family and friends.
