Ellen Snyder Obituary

Ellen Elizabeth Snyder

September 10, 1936 - January 11, 2026

Ellen Elizabeth Snyder, a resident of Toledo, Ohio, was born on September 10, 1936, in Plymouth, Indiana. Ellen trusted in Christ as her personal Savior at a young age. She was passionate about her faith and shared the gospel with people who came across her path. While serving at a rescue mission, she met her future husband, Pastor Bruce Snyder. They served faithfully together at several different churches for over 60 years.

Ellen, most notably, was a teacher. She was always teaching someone! She taught Home Ec at Emmanuel Christian in Toledo. She also developed a curriculum to teach toddlers in the church nursery. Teaching littles from the time they could sit in a chair and seeing them quote Bible verses was one of her greatest joys. In addition, Ellen mentored future pastors wives when their husbands were attending seminary. Because of her love for Christ, and anticipation of seeing her Savior face-to-face, she, along with her husband, adopted the motto "Perhaps Today." That motto is now her reality. On January 11, 2026, she met her Lord and Savior in Heaven.

Ellen is survived by her five children, Brenda (Bob) Shawver, Bruce (Janice) Snyder, Brent (Sharon) Snyder, Beth (Darrin) White, and Brian (Cindy) Snyder; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is at peace in Heaven and reunited with faithful loved ones who have preceded her in death. Ellen would tell you that death is not the end. It is just the beginning for those who trust Christ as their personal Savior!

A celebration of life service will be held Monday, January 19th, at 12:30 p.m. Respects can be paid beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 4207 Laskey Rd., Toledo, Ohio, 43623. Interment will take place at Toledo Memorial Park directly following the service. Condolences for Ellen's family may be expressed online at

My husband Jery and I think of our friends at Emmanuel Baptist. Ellen was especially kind to me. I remember our times with Bruce and Ellen very fondly.

Ellen Snyder was a beautiful person inside and out. We became good friends when she and Pastor Bruce Snyder were called to our church. Ellen was a doer - everything that she started, she always finished perfectly. One time, our church decided to have a couples Valentine dinner in the old gym before our new school was built. Ellen transformed that gym into a beautiful ballroom (with the help of a lot of manpower) I'm sure several men will remember putting up all that crepe paper. Everything she did, she did for the Lord. We once, together, canvassed my neighborhood, visiting each residence to tell them about Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - that was Ellen - always wanting to tell other about Jesus. Now she is with her dear husband with Jesus.
