Ellen Talbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grimes Funeral Chapels - Kerrville on Jan. 12, 2026.
Ellen Joyce Talbert, age 88, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on January 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

She was born on February 16, 1937, in Midlothian, Texas, to Eunice Ellen Skinner and Raymond Patton Skinner. To nearly everyone who knew her, she was simply ''Joyce'' - a name that reflected the light and kindness she brought into the lives of everyone around her. Few even realized her first name was Ellen, because ''Joyce'' suited her perfectly.

In her early years, Joyce and her parents moved to South Texas, where fate introduced her to the love of her life, a handsome young man named Don Talbert. The two were married on May 31, 1958, and shared a beautiful, devoted marriage that lasted 67 years. Together, they built a home full of laughter, faith, and unconditional love.

Joyce devoted her life to her family. She chose to put her career aside to raise her two sons, Stephen and Michael. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where the aromas of home-cooked meals reflected her love and care. Having learned to cook by her mother's side, Joyce became an exceptional cook, and her family treasured every meal she lovingly prepared.

In her quiet moments, Joyce enjoyed cross stitch, ceramics, and working on the latest puzzle. However, her favorite times were those spent surrounded by family. Many weekends, she, her husband and children joined Don's parents for lively games of "84" around the kitchen table - filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of memories that last a lifetime.

Faith was the foundation of Joyce's life. Throughout the years, she served faithfully in every church she attended - teaching Sunday School, leading Bible studies, and lending her organizational gifts as a church secretary. Those who knew her best saw the heart of a woman devoted not only to her loved ones, but also to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Joyce is survived by her devoted husband, Don Talbert; her beloved sister, Anne Estes; her sons, Stephen Talbert and Michael Talbert; her grandchildren, Kallan, Keagan, Jessica and Misty; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her gracious spirit, her steady faith, and her boundless love.

Services will be held on January 15th at 10:00 AM, at Grimes Funeral Chapels, 728 Jefferson, Kerrville, TX, 78028. Viewing will be held before service. Burial will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery, following the service.
