Ellis Elbert Rhoden, 94 of Comer, went home to his Heavenly Father on January 31, 2026.
He was born in Quitman, Mississippi on June 28, 1931 to John Elbert and Lillie Ivey Rhoden. He has two surviving siblings, Ann McSwain and Sidney Rhoden, both of Mississippi.
He fell in love and married the love of his life, Beverly Anglin Rhoden and was married for 72 years. They had four children, Debra (Rudi) Hanson, Jean Lowry, Cheryl Holliman (Toni) and Stephen Rhoden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Rhoden; Sister, Ada Westbrook, Daughter-in-Law, Debra Wood Rhoden, Sons-in-Law, David (Tiny) Hanson, Andy Lowry, and Granddaughter, Jeanna Dickerson.
He had 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly as their Papa. He has several "Tuck-in" grands who also lovingly claimed him as their Papa too. He was survived by many nieces and nephews all of whom respectfully called him "Unc".
During his 94 years he was able to accomplish a lot of things he enjoyed by keeping God first in his life, his family 2nd only to God. He was a Veteran and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He liked to tell people he was on an aircraft carrier headed to Korea. They heard WE were coming and they surrendered. He worked/retired from Transcontinental Gas pipeline after 37 years. There, he was one of the pioneers who designed, built and maintained the world's longest privately owned Microwave Communications Systems that is still in service today. His call number was 6R21. He was a member of Meadow Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and often taught Sunday School. He was a Member of the John H Jones Masonic Lodge. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening and budding/grafting trees, especially pecan trees, and had a Nursery business for several years. He grafted trees for people throughout Northeast Georgia and parts of South Carolina. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming. He enjoyed raising cattle and the farm life especially after retiring. He had a full life and he would assure you it was by the Grace of God.
The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their kind and compassionate loving care during his last days.
The funeral will be at Meadow Baptist Church on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 2:30 pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:30 at the church. Interment will follow in the Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Meadow Baptist Church Deacons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meadow Baptist Church or to the Gideon's International, to place Bibles throughout the world.
