Ellis Wise Obituary

Ellis Jerome Wise

Ellis Jerome Wise of Fairview Community, AL, went to heaven on February 16, 2021. Ellis was born January 2, 1938 at Gibson hospital, Enterprise AL to Marion Dallas Wise and Vera French Wise. His siblings were Frances Wise Fredrick, Johnnie Wise Griffin, Dr. Robert H. Wise, and Jane Wise Stephenson, all deceased. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Fayomia Avrett Wise; his son Wade Wise; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jennifer A., and Mickey Grimes and family. Also surviving are his nieces, nephews, and their families.

Ellis attended Kinston schools, where he played basketball; and Auburn University where he was in the ATO fraternity. He loved Auburn football, going back to the days of Shug Jordan.

As a young man, being the baby of his family, he loved his Saturday trips with his mother and daddy to Enterprise to have lunch, get groceries, and go to the ice house. The childhood memory he spoke most fondly of, were summers spent at Camp Dixie, GA. After buying his special camp clothes at Yancy Parkers, he was put on a train with Pete Dorsey, Jimmy DuBois, John Paul Currie, and other locals. Being raised on a farm, he loved showing his 4-H calves at the Tri-States Fat Stock Show & Sale in Dothan, AL., where in 1952, he won Grand Champion and a trip to Chicago.

A successful farmer and cattleman, he received an award for his outstanding agriculture leadership, citizenship, and community service along with Coffee County Peanut Production award.

He was vice-president of Coffee County Cattleman's Association and a member of Young Farmers of Alabama. Fellow farmers sought his advice on peanut growing. Ellis also served in the Alabama National Guard. Ellis was a founding member of Tight Eye Creek Hunting Club where he had fond memories of the annual rallies on Pea River. His passion was bream fishing; he loved the couples trips he and Faye took. He also loved the father and son trips he and Wade took from The Junction at Geneva to Black Creek at Freeport. He also appreciated Wade's support in helping with the cattle and anything else needed on the farm. He also loved sucker fishing with special friends and cooking on the bank. When he felt better, he loved cooking BBQ and rice for family and friends, and it was really good. During the last year and not feeling too good, he enjoyed just riding with Faye to the pond and checking on the cows, and talking about old times listening to Willies Roadhouse.

Ellis was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and attended Enterprise First Assembly the last several years. The service for Ellis will be held at EFA on Sunday February 21, 2021 with visitation at 1 pm and Funeral Service at 2 pm. Burial following at Fairview Baptist Cemetery at Fairview Community. Flowers accepted or donations to EFA building find at http.wwe.efa-enterprise-firstassembly.com/take-action or Fairview Baptist Cemetery fund, of Fairview Baptist Church, 3159 Highway 87 Samson, AL 36477.

A very special thank you to Ellis' caregivers in the CCU at Southeast Health, and a special appreciation to Dr. Dhaval Pau, Sarah Dalvine, and close family friend Dr. Jarrod Adkison.
