Elmer “Bill” William Muellhaupt Jr. Passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the age of 80. Beloved husband of 54 years to Vicki Muellhaupt, nee Carlaw; devoted father of Kristen Muellhaupt, Shelley (Lucas) Kohlman, and Suzie (the late Brian) Gillespie; and cherished grandpa of James Pack, Avery Pack, Abram Gillespie, and Eli Gillespie. Bill is also survived by many other cherished family and friends.

Bill was an alumnus of the Rolla School of Mines, graduating in the class of 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering before he made a career in the electrical and chemical industries, becoming a jack of all trades. His time at school ignited a lifelong passion for science, a flame that would illuminate his path and guide him through an adventurous life. He had an insatiable curiosity about the world around him, often found tinkering with gadgets or reverse engineering anything that could benefit from his scientifically inclined mind. A true innovator at heart, Bill's love for technology was matched by his fascination with ham radio. He was an amateur extra class radio operator and was deeply involved in ham radio from a young age. He received his amateur extra class license while still in high school and was one of the first to do so. He participated in radio clubs, such as the ARL (American Radio League), and notably engaged in conversations with people across the globe, often sending cards in Morse code to those with whom he communicated.

Beyond his intellect, Bill was social and had a grace that made him approachable to all, even during his later residency at Cedarhurst. He had a knack for conversation and a unique way of connecting with those around him; he embodied a warmth that was truly infectious. Known for his quirky charm and his ability to walk to his own rhythm, Bill embraced his individuality unapologetically, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. Bill also held a great love for animals, especially dogs, showcasing his nurturing side. Bill often spoke fondly of the companionship and joy that his furry friends brought into his life, reflecting the affectionate and caring nature he possessed. In moments of quiet reflection, one could find Bill immersed in the world of Star Trek, a passion that mirrored his own adventurous spirit. His love for the universe, with its endless possibilities, resonated deeply with his personality.

Elmer "Bill" Muellhaupt may have left this world, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, intellect, and uniquely vibrant personality. May we, like Bill, live long and prosper.
