Elmer W. Cone

Elmer William Cone, age 88, of Bovey, Minnesota passed away Thursday 25th of September 2025.

Elmer was born on 1937 to Russell and Margaret "Peggy" Cone in Park Rapids, MN. He attended Greenway School District, and then joined the Army National Guard, worked in the mines, and Troumbly Brothers Inc., until he started his own business.

He started a construction company in 1962 and throughout the years had Cone Corporation, Cone Construction, Cone Snow Removal, Cone Equipment and Supply, Little Dipper Company, also he logged and farmed in his earlier years. His passion was recreation. He was instrumental in the formation of the Lawron Trail Riders, Park and Recreation Board for Itasca County, Blandin Trails Task Force, International Snowmobile Hall of Fame, Taconite Trail, and many other local trails. 1957 in Marble, Mn and lived in Lawrence Lake Township, Bovey, MN.

Elmer was inducted into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame in 2007;

He married the love of his life, Margaret "Muggs" Edner on September 28, 1957.

Elmer is preceded in death by his parents; sibling, Herman Cone; sister-in-law, Charlotte Cone; and grandson; Bo William Brandstrom.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; children, William "Bud" (Michelle) Cone, Kathleen "Kif" (Wally Zerebko) Cone, Shelly (Darrell) Brandstrom; brother. Russell (Donna) Cone; sister-in-law, Beverly Cone; Grandchildren, Larry (Ashley) Loucks, Derek (Lindsey) Brandstrom, Brett Cone, Alex Cone, Jessica (James) Ferrell; great grandchildren; Claire and Cassidy Brandstrom, Tucker and Kylie Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be Saturday, October 4, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am at the Lawron Presbyterian Church, followed by memorial services at 11:00 am. Rev. Dorothy Duquette will officiate. A private burial will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine, MN at a later date.
