Elmer August Pergande was born August 7, 1930 to Carl Pergande and Catherine Hinkle Pergande in LuVerne, Iowa. He departed this life Monday, April 29, 2024 in Marshfield Care Center in Marshfield, Missouri. At the time of his passing, he was ninety-three years, eight months and twenty-two days of age.
Elmer was born and raised in Iowa and began his military career at age seventeen. He served in the United States Air Force for twenty years which included service in the Vietnam War. He was a very proud veteran.
On December 31, 1951, Elmer was united in marriage to Helen Trexel. They were married sixty-six years before she passed away on September 16, 2018.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Elmer and Helen moved to Hartville, Missouri where they purchased a farm and began cattle farming. In addition to farming, he owned a trucking business. About thirty years ago, they relocated to Lebanon, Missouri. After moving to Lebanon, Elmer was employed with Agri Services of Lebanon.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Helen; his daughter, Marjorie Helen Pergande; his brothers, Ernest, Lewis and John and his sister, Helen McClellan.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Pergande of Lebanon, Missouri and Teresa Pergande of Mountain Grove, Missouri; two grandchildren, Christine and Gary; and four great-grandchildren, Felicia, Evan, Anthony and August; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Elmer enjoyed gardening and watching television. Most important to him was his family. He loved his family very much and they were very important to him. He was generous to his family and always gave of himself.
Elmer will leave a legacy of hard work and determination. His loss will certainly leave a great void in the family, but the memories he made with them will be cherished for years to come.
A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m. at Mount Rose Chapel Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established to The Hughes Senior Center and donations may be left at the funeral home.
