Elmer Lee Putnam, 80, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Wake Assisted Living in Raleigh after a brief illness. He was born on April 19, 1943 in Alamance County to the late Cecil Edgar Putnam and Maggie Myrtle Loy Putnam, and was the husband of 63 years to Marianne Whittington Putnam who survives.
Elmer had formerly worked at Plantation Body Shop, but later became self-employed with his own body shop. He grew up on a farm helping his family, he always enjoyed being outdoors, playing horse shoes, fishing, playing softball, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors other than his wife, Marianne Putnam, include his daughter, Lisa Bowman and husband Kenneth; a son, Rick Putnam and wife Reneé; grandchildren, Lucas Cates, Amelia Durham and husband Jonathan, Julia Mason and husband Andrew; great grandchildren, Elijah and Eliza Durham, Henry and Levi Mason; a sister-in-law, Mary Evans Putnam; several nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, “Holly”. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
The funeral service to celebrate Elmer’s life will be held at 1:00pm Friday, March 29, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Steve Pruitt with the burial to follow at Shallow Ford Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30am to 12:45pm Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
