Elnita Marie Gaither, a cherished soul who graced the world with her presence, departed this life on April 8, 2025, in her beloved Louisville, Kentucky, where she was born on February 19, 1965. Elnita, a dedicated bus driver for the Jefferson County Public Schools, devoted her life not only to her profession but also to the family she so deeply cherished. She embodied the essence of a true homemaker; her family always came first in her heart. As a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a nurturing Nana and LeLe, Elnita was a passionate woman who steadfastly placed God at the center of her life.
Her boundless love extended beyond her own children, as she took care of all children, embracing them with the warmth of a big heart that knew no bounds. Elnita's legacy is woven into the lives of those she nurtured, impacting all with her kindness and unwavering strength. A pillar of support and affection, she brought joy and laughter to every room she entered, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
Elnita will be lovingly remembered by her surviving family, including her loving husband, Kenny Gaither, her devoted sons, Edgar W. Sisson Jr. and his wife Ashley, and Robert Martin Jr. and his wife Shae, step children, Kenny Petty and Kirby Jones. Her grandchildren—Robert III (Tre), Amari, Raelyn, Zya, Ava, Alston, Nadia, Kyla and Kingston —will carry forth the vibrant spirit of their grandmother, who lavished upon them a nurturing love that will forever endure. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Russel Reid and his wife Rosalind, Della Jones and her husband Reuben, Ozzie Brooks and his wife Rosezette, James Brooks, Mary Murphy, Theresa Thomas, and Catina Benford, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
Elnita was predeceased by her beloved parents, James Gordon and Jeanette Brooks, as well as her siblings, Scott Patrick Brooks and Love Antonio Brooks and step child Kaylyn Gaither, who surely welcomed her with open arms.
A visitation to honor Elnita will take place on April 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1368 South 28th Street in Louisville, KY. This will be followed by a funeral service commencing at 12:00 PM, in celebration of a life that epitomized love, compassion, and selflessness.
As we bid farewell to Elnita Marie Gaither, let us remember her not just for her departure but for the extraordinary life she led—a life illuminated by love, service, and an unwavering commitment to family. May her spirit inspire us continuously as we carry forward her legacy of kindness and devotion.
