Eloisa Bustos Obituary

Elosia V. Bustos passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Santa Fe on February 12, 2026 surrounded by loving family, at the age of 88. A native Santa Fean, Elosia was born at St. Vincent’s Hospital, August 3, 1937. The youngest of eight children, she learned the importance of family, at an early age. Elosia was a gentle, kind soul, with incredible strength forged in faith. She dedicated her life to the Lord, Our Blessed Virgin Mary and her family,

Elosia graduated from Santa Fe High School with a 4.0 GPA. She retired from the National Park Service after 25 years of service. Eloisa then volunteered at the Basilica Cathedral of Saint Francis of Assisi and was quickly hired on as a full-time employee for another 15 years. Msgr. Jerome Martinez Y Alire, affectionately referred to her as his "Girl Friday".

Eloisa was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank C Bustos, Jr. She often spoke of the great love they shared and the fond memories she carried of her soulmate Frank Bustos, Jr. sharing 48 wonderful years with him, raising their family, making cherished memories with friends, and watching grandchildren, and great grandchildren grow like the flowers which sprang in her beloved garden..

She is also preceded her in death are her parents, Hilario and Antonia C. Vigil; brothers, Robert (Rose), Louis (Helen), Isidro (Jenny) and Herminio (Dolores); sisters, Mary (Facundo), Beatrice (Rubel), and Betty (Don); and great grandson, Elliot Elfelt.

She is survived by her children, Raymond (Irma), Margaret Acton (Douglas) and Frank III (Sabra); nine grandchildren, Joseph, Charlene, Raymond Jr (Nicole), and Stephanie (Roberto), Jeneara Haren (Tyler), Elisabeth Elfelt (John), Chaz, Zavier, and Zowie; seven great-grandchildren, Billy Anacker, Aurora Anacker, I’zayah Wilson, Elsie Elfelt, James Elfelt, Arabella, and Nico Bustos, and special friend/Sister Emilia Atencio. Elosia is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and many extended family members.

Elosia is recognized as a pilar of faith in the City of Holy Faith. A daily communicant, she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and Lector for decades at  the Basilica Cathedral of Saint Francis of Assisi. If she observed parishioners experiencing transportation difficulties, she made a point to arrange for or offer rides, so that all could hear the word of God, and practice their faith. She carried herself with grace and gave freely of her time and belongings. Her quiet comfort and gentle warmth will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A special thanks to the staff and clergy at the Basilica, Father Larry Brito, Deacon Martin for St. Annes, Father DJ from Santa Maria de la Paz, all the staff of Compassus Hospice Care of New Mexico, especially Alan, Alberta, Corrine, Lora, Marianna, and Dr. Caroline Kingston.

A Rosary will take place on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 6:00pm at the Rivera Kiva Chapel of Light, 417 Rodeo Rd. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 11:00am at the Basilica Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi with burial to follow at 1:00pm at Rosario Cemetery.
