Eloise "Memaw" Roden
January 14, 1938 - February 23, 2026
Eloise "Memaw" Roden, a woman whose heart and home had no walls, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at the age of 88. While her family lovingly called her Mama and Granny, to the rest of the world she was known simply - and truly - as "Memaw."
A Mother to All
Memaw did not believe in strangers. If you knew her, you were family. She was respected by everyone who crossed her path because she treated people with raw honesty and unconditional love. Whether you were kin or not, Memaw would make sure you were fed, cared for, and looked after - though she would not hesitate to fuss at you if you needed correcting. She was the kind of woman who could scold you and hug you out of love, sometimes in the very same afternoon.
Bold and unforgettable, Memaw lived life on her own terms. She never minded asking for a dollar when she needed one, and she was famously known for using her bra as a purse, keeping whatever she needed close at hand - a small but perfect symbol of her practical, no-nonsense spirit.
Her Life and Strength
Raised with very little, Memaw's life was defined by hard work, resilience, and generosity. Because she knew what it meant to go without, she gave freely to those around her. She found joy in life's simple pleasures - a good song, dancing whenever she could, and especially the laughter of her "babies."
Even through life's hardships, she always found a way forward. She taught everyone around her that a meaningful life is not measured by money, but by love, strength, and the memories you create with others.
Her Ever-Growing Family
Though she endured the heartbreaking loss of three of her six children, Memaw's love only grew stronger through the years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sons: Ray Roden, David Roden, and Ronnie Roden.
She is survived by her children: Cynthia Berryhill, Gary Roden, and Darlene Roden.
Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Ugarte, George Berryhill, Artie Ward, Stacy Roden, Jeffery Roden, Brittany Christmas, Ronald Roden, Hally Roden, and Elizabeth Roden.
She also leaves behind a host of great-grandbabies who were the light of her life and whom she took great pride in watching grow.
In addition to her family, Memaw is survived by countless friends and neighbors whom she claimed as her own - all of whom will forever know her simply as "Memaw."
Her presence, laughter, and fierce love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
