Elroy Thomas Payne

Elroy was a good friend while we were students in McMurry. I recall one night Elroy and I attend the wresting marches at the city auditorium. He was a dear friend and I regarded him as such. His death is a loss but his memory remains fresh and alive. Rest in peace.

I remember him well and thought the world of him as he was my first football coach in Ballinger jr. hi. when I was in the 6th grade! Ballinger was blessed with many won games with his fullback position.
My condolences go out to his family. Thanks also go to the Steve Klutts family as he kept me informed of Elroy in recent years.

My heart goes out to everyone who loved Elroy. One of the memories that brings a smile to my face took place when when I was very young 5-7 years old??? Not sure of the west Texas town even but I have a vivid memory of being sent to spend some summer days with Merle & Elroy. Elroy was a lifeguard at a pool so I got to spend days upon days in the pool which was heaven for me! And of course, I was with Elroy, THE lifeguard!!!
