Elroy Knox Tidmore entered this life on Saturday November 30th,1929, in Mountain View Oklahoma and entered Eternal Life at the age of 95, nearly 96, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 20th, 2025, at Seiling Nursing Home in Seiling Oklahoma.
Elroy was the eldest of two sons born to Knox and Marie (Patterson) Tidmore. At the age of seven, Elroy with his parents and younger brother Don, moved to Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, later living in Anadarko and Cushing Oklahoma, at the age of ten his family moved to Holdenville, Oklahoma where he lived until the age of twenty. At the age of fourteen he accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Holdenville.
Elroy graduated from Holdenville High School in 1950 where he met and later married his high school sweetheart Rachel ( Wasson) on July 21st, 1950, at the Heron Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and the were blessed with 75 years of marriage.
Elroy and Rachel made their home in Oklahoma City for a short time. Elroy entered the Service Branch of the Army on September 1st, 1950, NBUS Artillery. His rank was Sargeant (T) 45th Division Battery C. Field Artillery, Korean War. Then Elroy was informed that the 45th National Guard had been mobilized, he was a member and reported to 45th Nation Guard in Holdenville, Oklahoma for duty, He was sent to San Antonio Texas, (Fort Sam Houston) to Cook and Baker School, He graduated on October 28th, 1950. After he graduated, he rejoined his unit in Camp Poke, Louisiana. In March of 1951 he was sent to Japan then on to South Korea, returning in May of 1952. Elroy was honorably discharged with the rank of Sargeant (T), he served in the National Guard and was on active duty from 1948 through May 8th, 1952. Elroy also served as a Gunner in Korea. Elroy was awarded the Army CCC Medal (Japan) United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star.
After being discharged from the Army, Elroy moved his wife Rachel and baby daughter Deborah (Debbie) Ann with him to Sulphur, Oklahoma where he worked as a salesman for Wonder Bread. A second daughter, Pamela Kay, joined the family and she was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma on June 30th, 1953. Elroy worked other jobs at this time and took the family to Shawnee, Oklahoma working for Harps Company. While living in Shawnee they had a son, David Elroy, born December 4th , 1955.
In 1957 Elroy and his wife Rachel bought a home in a little addition near Oklahoma City. During this time Elroy worked as a traveling salesman for Beatrice Frozen Foods, after about a year the company requested, he move to Clinton, Oklahoma. Elroy continued to work for Beatrice for five more years, then Elroy went to work for Vernon Advertising Company where he worked as a traveling sales representative for 53 years. After a few weeks with the Vernon Company, they requested Elroy move to Sharon, Oklahoma. The family moved to Sharon Oklahoma in 1963. After the move to Sharon, the family joined The First Baptist Church in Sharon. Elroy served as head usher for many years and was a faithful member. He loved his church family and still considered himself a member even though he couldn't attend church; he still liked to stay caught up with the people in his church. In his younger days Elroy loved to fish and hunt with his buddies. Many of the Thanksgivings were begun early in the morning with the guys going quail hunting.
While Elroy worked for The Vernon Company, he won many awards and trips. One of the biggest accomplishments of his work for the Vernon Company was when Elroy became a member of The Million Dollar Club in 1998 and then went on to sell 3 Million Dollars in 2001. Elroy also worked for many years, part time, at G. O. Williams Oil Company in Sharon.
Elroy was a Lifetime Member of the V.F.W. post 1335 since 1982 and of The American Legion Post 0019 since 1986. He was greatly honored in 2015 when he was awarded the Quilt of Valor for his service to our country by The American Legion in Woodward, Ok.
Elroy loved to laugh and talk! Everyone that knew Elroy…knew that when they were around him, they had better get ready to hear the many stories he loved to tell! He always loved a new set of ears to share his stories with. Elroy was a loving husband, Dad, Granddad, Great-Granddad, and even a Great-Great-Granddad. He loved his family and our family get-togethers. Elroy was proceeded in death by his Parents, Knox and Marie Tidmore, his brother, Don Tidmore, his daughter Pamela LoCoco, and Grandson Shane Tidmore.
Elroy is survived by his wife, Rachel Tidmore, his daughter Deborah Hall and Husband Dennis, of Duncan, Ok., Son, David Tidmore and wife Cherl Lynn, of Locust Grove, Ok., Son-in-law Allen LoCoco, wife Tien and daughter Tina of Locust Grove, Ok., Grandchildren- Tony LoCoco and wife Scarlett, Salina Ok., Bobi Wallace and husband Bob., of Owasso, Ok., Joel Stocking and wife Carol, of Woodward, Ok., Matthew Stocking and Alisia, of Woodward, Ok. Former Daughter-in-law Tammy Day and husband Jack, of Woodward, Ok. Eight Great-Grandchildren- Bret LoCoco & Chloe, Shealynn (Stocking) & Patrick Coffey, Garett Stocking, Grady Stocking, Knox Stocking, Luke Wallace, (Twins) Cooper & Raegan LoCoco. Three Great-Great- Grandchildren- Karsyn, Samuel, and Brooklynn Coffey.
