Elsie Marcus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2013.
Elsie Lola Cochran Marcus Our sweet mother, friend, comedian, mentor, teacher and gambler extraodinaire passed into God's arms on May 2, 2013. Elsie Lola Cochran Marcus was born in Alameda, California on November 20, 1920. Her mother Elena (Lola) Gerasimova was a Russian immigrant that her father, Leslie Cochran, married and brought back to the United States. Elsie grew up in Oakland, California, graduating from Castlemont High School in 1938. She has a younger sister, Nida Debenning and a brother Leslie Cochran Jr. Mom married our father, Ross Marcus, on February 22, 1941. He passed away on October 14, 1981. She then met the love of her life Rollan Tonkinson. He has been an integral part of her life and ours for 30 years. Our family wants to thank him for his never ending commitment and love to our mother. The gratitude in our hearts for his undying love and attention to her is without saying. Thank you, Tonk. Mom was a lifetime member (60 years) of the First United Methodist Church. She had an amazing voice which she shared as a member of the chancel choir. She was also a member of Miriam Chapter 14 Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She lived her life to the fullest. Mom leaves behind three children and their spouses, Gary and Ina Marcus, Terry and Lorie Marcus and Karen and Darryl Pilgreen. She will be sorely missed. She also leaves behind six grandchildren (one deceased), eleven great grandchildren, with one more on the way, and two great-great grandchildren. A private graveside service for close friends and family will be conducted on May 6, 2013, 11:00 a.m., Ogden City Cemetery. The family would like to thank the extraordinary angels that helped our family and our mother, Dr. Holland, Stephanie, Nicole and Chris her thanatologist from Hospice for Utah and Erin and AJ, her CNA's from Manorcare who brought a smile to her face every time they entered her room. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you give your mother a special hug and tell her you love her on this fine upcoming Mother's Day.
