Elsie Mullens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Midlothian Funeral Home on Dec. 5, 2025.
Elsie Juanita Mullens was born on July 30,1933, in Dallas,Texas. She was the third of four children born to her parents, Calvin Grady and Ruth Belle Hazelwood.

Juanita grew up in the East Dallas area and was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Woodrow Wilson High School. Her first job was with Columbia Pictures film distribution office in Dallas.

On July 17,1954, Juanita married, T.O. Mullens, her husband of almost 62 years.

They settled in Oak Cliff and welcomed three daughters, Toni Gayle, Beverly Jayne and Lisa Ann. Juanita was a stay at home mom until her youngest finished high school. She then began a career working in the Employee Benefits Department of the

Army and Air Force Exchange Service. After retirement Juanita and T.O. moved to Midlothian, Texas.

Juanita surrendered her life to Jesus and was baptized in her youth. She was faithful in her church attendance and raised her girls in the church. She was a member of Wheatland Road Baptist church in the late 1950's. Later, as a member of Beckley Hills Baptist Church, she taught the preschool Sunday school for over a decade. Juanita joined First Baptist Oak Cliff in 1980. For several years she was a member of a ladies Sunday school class where she made dear friends before once again teaching a children's Sunday school class. When Juanita moved to Midlothian in 2000 she joined Longbranch Community Church. She loved being a part of her Bible study group and formed more sweet friendships. She and T.O. enjoyed being part of the monthly "Lunch Bunch" group and fellowship with other retired couples. This was the church body that supported her through her greatest loss when her T.O. went to be with the Lord in 2015.

Her life was filled with quiet acts of service, always caring for those around her and placing their needs before her own. She lived for her family and nothing made her happier than becoming a grandmother and then a great-grandmother! It was truly the joy of her life.

We are forever grateful for her example of selfless, patient, practical, unconditional love. She was the heart of our family and is dearly missed.

Juanita is Preceded in death by her husband, Tony Oliver Mullens. Her parents, Calvin Grady Hazelwood and Ruth Belle Bolt Hazelwood. Her siblings, Angus Lee Hazelwood
