With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Elta Boone, who left us peacefully on November 1, 2024, at her beloved home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old.
Elta was born in Mallett on July 2, 1939, to Felix and Violet Godeaux Boone, who welcomed her into the world with love. She was the heart of her family, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Elta's kindness and warmth touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Elta was a strong, sassy, and resilient woman who loved life. She instilled strength and independence in her children and loved fiercely. She enjoyed family gatherings, collecting clown and cat figurines, tending to her plants and flowers, camping, going to the casino, and visits to Holly Beach. She had a strong Christian faith, loved Jesus and the Christmas season. Gift giving for her grand and great grandchildren brought her joy. When you visited with her you were sure to smile, laugh, and leave with a full belly. She was an exceptional cook and would always make sure visitors were fed with her pain perdu (French toast), cookies or sweet dough pies.
She is survived by her four cherished sons: Mitchell Ashford of Iota, Ronald Ashford and his wife, Tammy, of Eunice, Kevin Ashford and his wife, Tiffany, of Mamou, and Travis Matte of Eunice. Her daughters, Jessica Castille of Eunice, Sara Ashford and her husband, Harold, of Eunice, Shanet Prochaska of Washington, and Danielle Daigle of Kinder, will carry forward her legacy of love. Elta was also blessed with a large and loving family, including her brother, Stafford Boone, and her sister, Bertha Matte, along with thirty-two grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Elta was preceded in death by her parents, her treasured daughter Myra Street, her brothers Steve, Leroy, and Thomas Boone, as well as her sisters Florence Gaspard, Doris Olivier, Elaine Fortson, and Berline Boone. She remembers fondly her grandchildren Brant Street, Richard John Castille, and Tricia Ashford, along with her daughters-in-law Belinda Ashford and Ashley Matte, and sons-in-law Steven Street and Nelson Prochaska, who have all now joined her in eternal peace.
A Chapel Service in celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, led by Pastor Stacey F. Miller.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, November 3rd, from 11:00 AM until the service on Monday. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM followed by a time of sharing.
Elta's warmth, generosity, and loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. We invite family and friends to share their memories and sign the guestbook online at www.ardoinfuneralhomes.com.
