ELVA'S LIFE AND LEGACY
Gertrude "Elva" Dixon was born on May 21, 1947, in Accomack County, Virginia, to Theodore Albert Williams and Mary Frances Byrd Williams. She passed away on April 23, 2023, in Salisbury, Maryland, at the age of seventy-six (75) years old.
Elva spent most of her adult life in Dover, Delaware, and graduated from William Henry High School (now William Henry Comprehensive High School).
Elva was a caring individual who took care of lots of people. She worked as a Nurse's Aide at Silver Lake Nursing Home and was also a housewife in her later years.
Elva joined the Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in 1973, where she served as a Steward, a member of the Senior Choir, and the Women's Choir.
On August 26, 1989, Elva and Kenny were joined in holy matrimony.
Elva loved to laugh and enjoy quality time with her friends and family. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing things like singing, playing cards, sewing, knitting, and playing board games. She also really enjoyed cooking and has passed down recipes to the family that will never be forgotten.
In addition to her parents, Elva was predeceased by her loving husband of twenty-eight (28) years, Kenneth "Kenny" Dixon; her grandparents, Thomas Williams and Nettie Parker and siblings, Clarence "Buck" Byrd, Bertha May Williams-Holden, Linda Ann Williams, Shirley Lee Williams-Hines, Syvoice Nanette Byrd, Gertrude Williams and Richard Wayne Williams.
Elva leaves to cherish her memory and will be deeply missed by: her six children, Sam Williams, Zina G. Hutcherson, Mervin Williams, Devine Robinson, Jr., Regina Davis, and Stacy Savage and sons-in-law, John Hutcherson and Wayne Savage. She will be forever cherished and remembered by her 13 grandchildren, Adam Williams, John Hutcherson V, Shanice Hall, Tykeah Savage, Tameka Savage, Tamara Savage, Demetrus Davis, Derrick Davis, Dontae Davis, Ronnell Smith, Paulette Smith, Latasha Dudley and Travis Marcus and 10 great-grandchildren. She will also be loved and remembered by her siblings, Theodore Albert Williams, Jr., Annie Bell Williams-Harmon, Julia Elizabeth Williams-Robinson, and Mary Genette Williams and three long-time friends, Bertha Freeman, Evelyn Dixon and Clemintine Dixon as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Elva was a very spirited woman who left a lasting impression on anyone that she met. Her laugh was contagious, her smile infectious, and her heart warm. She cared deeply for the people around her. She was kind and passionate and will be forever missed by many.
Although the family is deeply saddened by her passing, they are forever grateful for their time with her.
"Those who touch our lives, stay in our hearts forever."
