On June 12, 2025, Elvin (Pepper) Elonzo Averette passed away peacefully surrounded by love. He was born on November 09, 1947, to Beulah McKenzie Davis and Elvin Averette.
Elvin was a longtime resident of Dayton, Ohio and recently relocated to Fredericksburg, VA. Elvin was a United States Marine who served honorably in the Vietnam War. Following his time in the military, he worked as a plumber and refrigeration tech with Frigidaire.
He was preceded in death by his parents Beulah McKenzie Davis and Elvin Averette and brother Dwight Averette.
Much beloved, he leaves to mourn his memory his wife, LaTanya (Tangie) Averette; his siblings: Fronzetta McKenzie Clanton, Syd Davis Bosley, Lynette Cannon Hooper, Diane Averette Cole, William Averette, Basil Averette, Keith Averette and James Davis; his children Natasha Glover, Elvin E. Averette Jr, Ashley Averette and stepchildren Nichole Seabron and Charles Williams Jr.; grandchildren Hawk Reid, Isaac Glover and Roman Glover and a host of cousins including Robert (Rowboat) Averette and Chris and Willa Averette.
He was a kind and generous man, who believed in working hard for what you wanted in life. He loved his church and his church family. He enjoyed going to family reunions and other family activities. But, most often, he enjoyed laying back in his easy chair and watching old fashioned westerns.
He was loved deeply and will be truly missed.
A Tribute to Elvin E. Averette
A soldier brave, with heart so wide, Elvin stood with strength and pride. Through duty's call and battles faced, He wore his honor, calm and graced. Yet more than medals, stripes, or fame, It was family that he held aflame. With Tangie, his love so true, He said "I do" not once, but two. Though time would steal his memory's grace, Love still lingered in his face. Now he rests, his journey done, A hero, a husband, a father, a son. Forever loved, forever near, In every heart that holds him dear.
