Elvy Clements

Elvy Clements, 89, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on January 7, 1936, in Henderson, Kentucky, to the late Charles William Clements and Bettie Mae (Hatchett) Clements. Elvy relocated with his family to Evansville, Indiana, where he built a life centered on faith, family, and service. 

As a devoted member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Elvy served faithfully on both the Usher Board and the Culinary Ministry, roles that allowed him to welcome and care for others in his community. His commitment to service extended beyond the church walls, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. 

Elvy dedicated 27 years of his career to Alcoa, where he was known for his reliability, integrity, and strong work ethic. A proud union member, he believed deeply in the value of hard work and made it his mission to instill these values in his children, grandchildren, and extended family. Elvy was a pillar of support for his loved ones, always encouraging them to pursue their goals and offering unwavering support in all their endeavors. He was also the keeper of family traditions, ensuring that gatherings were filled with warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging. 

Elvy’s commitment to community was evident through his active involvement in local organizations. He was a founding member and past president of the Sterling Men’s Club, where he worked tirelessly to advance the group’s mission and support fundraising efforts that benefited the wider community. Elvy’s leadership style was marked by a no-nonsense approach and a willingness to lead by example—he never expected anything from others that he was not willing to do himself. His dedication and integrity earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, and his efforts left a lasting impact on the organizations he served. 

Elvy was passionate about maintaining and sharing family traditions, especially those that brought people together. He was renowned for his exceptional culinary skills, particularly his barbecue and greens, which became the centerpiece of many family gatherings. As a master gardener, Elvy took great pride in planting vibrant gardens each year, generously sharing the fruits and vegetables he grew with family, friends, and neighbors. His home was always open, and he delighted in welcoming others for good food, fellowship, and laughter. 

Beyond his love for cooking and gardening, Elvy enjoyed fishing and found peace in the quiet moments spent by the water. He was also a die-hard bid whist player, known for hosting lively card games in his garage. These gatherings were more than just games—they were opportunities for storytelling, camaraderie, and building lasting memories with friends and family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 43 years, Lorene Clements; his daughter, Sherrie Clements; and his siblings, Dorothy Moore and Artis Clements.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving daughters, Phyllis Brown, Starla McCord, Ravonda (Lawrence) Thompson, and Diane (Nelson) Clements Boyd; his devoted sisters, Edna Clements, Clara (Waymon) Davis, and Cathryn (Treneir) Woodland Sr. He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. A special acknowledgment is extended to his devoted cousin and caregiver, Renita Pullem, and his long-time friend and companion, Alberta Young. 

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to his exceptional caregivers and many friends who provided such loving care and support. Visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 S. Governor Street, Evansville, IN 47713. Visitation will be on Saturday at 9:00 a.m., with funeral services starting at 10:00 a.m. Final committal will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Zion Missionary Baptist Church Food Pantry or the Evansville Emergency Food Pantry Consortium.
