Elwin O. Rasmussen

Elwin O. “El” Rasmussen passed away on March 26, 2026, in Powell, Ohio, at the age of 90. He was born December 27, 1935, in Crocker, South Dakota.

El proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Concordia College. He helped open the Sears Distribution Center and went on to work as a consultant with the Franklin County court system.

He was a devoted husband to Patricia Ann Rasmussen for 67 years and a loving father to Rhonda (Steve) Harris, Renee (Kevin) Mercer, and Jay Rasmussen. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua Engler, Evan (Erica) Engler, Collin Harris, Kaelin Mercer, Keegan Mercer, Megan Connor, and Kai Rasmussen, and a great-grandfather to Sarah, August, Eden, Elwin, and Ava. He officiated two of his grandchildren’s weddings, reflecting his deep role in their lives.

El was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Orphie Rasmussen; his brothers, Erlenn and Allen Rasmussen; and his half-siblings, Mildred Rindahl and Benny Rindahl. He is survived by his brother Orland (Gloria) Rasmussen and sister Elaine Blashill.

A man of strong faith, El was active in his church and in charitable organizations, including the Columbus Maennerchor and Charity Newsies. He enjoyed singing, golfing, and spending time with children, bringing warmth, humor, and compassion to those around him.

El will be remembered for his deep love of family, his kindness, hugs, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 2-3pm, Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, OH, where a memorial service will begin at 3pm.
