Elwood "Woody" Clifton

Elwood "Woody" Clifton, walked into the arms of his Savior Friday, May 6, 2022 while being held in the arms of the one he adored holding and kissing him as he drew his final earthly breath. He fought a long battle with Parkinson's disease and ultimately God healed him of that when he took him home. Woody was born on January 2, 1932 in McNairy, Arizona to James and Eva McDaniel Clifton. He was a people
person who had a quick wit living life to the fullest and experiencing many accomplishments and failures – heartaches and triumphs. He was the founder and president of Clifco Incorporated in Dyersburg.
He is survived by the love of his life, Marilyn Scarborough Clifton, children Stephen (Laurie) Clifton of Jacksonville, Florida, Alandra (Tim) Murphy of Sleepy Hollow, New York, Carol (Bert) Clifton Stevens of Lebanon, Tennessee, Leah (Tim) Orr of Newbern, Tennessee, and Royce (Angela) Funderburk of Dyersburg, Tennessee, along with twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Clifton Myers of Long Beach, California and Martha Clifton Guy of El Segundo, California and a host of friends and extended family. He was a member of Yorkville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Woody was a graduate of Canyon City High School and Cerritos College. He served proudly in the Armed Forces of the United States as a Military Policeman during the Korean War. He loved cars and could name them all quickly. He was a geography buff who took great pride in his ability to name the capitals of each state and country.
Funeral Services are planned for Monday, May 9, 2022 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Johnson Williams Funeral Home, Newbern, Tennessee with Rev. Steve Clifton and Rev. Travis Davison officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00.
