Elwood Jennings, Jr., age 84, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, in Taylorsville, surrounded by his family.
A devoted member of Salem Baptist Church, Elwood lived out his faith by treating everyone he met with fairness and kindness. He was a man of many talents and tireless work ethic - a lifelong farmer, former owner and operator of Jennings Lumber, and a well-known clerk at Convenient for several years.
Elwood's love for sports began in his school days and continued throughout his life, especially when cheering on his family. Known for his quick wit, he enjoyed telling jokes and visiting with people wherever he went, always brightening the day with a story or a laugh.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Davidson Jennings; his second wife, Lou Jennings; his son, Chris Jennings; his son-in-law, William Cecil Hammond; his sister, Louise Brown; and his parents, Elwood Jennings Sr. and Lois Evelyn Butts Jennings.
Elwood is survived by his daughter, Julie Hammond of Shelbyville; his brother, William Jennings (Linda) of Shelbyville; his stepchildren, Chris Literal (Renee) of Louisville and Heather Shuck of Waddy; his grandchildren, Zachary Hammond (Traci), Spencer Hammond (Heather), both of Shelbyville, Justin Jennings (Ashley) of Louisville, and Kelsey Hodge (Charlie) of Cincinnati; step-grandchildren, Briana Literal, Emilie Shuck, Alex Shuck and Erin Shuck; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at Shannon Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the funeral home.
