Emelyn Allmond Evans, 88, of
Dublin, Georgia went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 11, 2024.
Born in Vidalia, GA in 1935, to William and Beatrice Allmond, she was married to Darwin H Evans, Sr. for 65 years.
Emelyn's life was marked by her love for family and trust in Jesus Christ, as well as for her contributions to the Laurens County Baptist Association and Rock Springs Baptist Church. She grew up in Vidalia and attended First Baptist Church of Vidalia as a child, accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12. Emelyn graduated from Vidalia High School in 1953 and attended Georgia State College in Milledgeville for two years. She met Darwin while she was working at Sears and they were married at First Baptist Church of Vidalia on August 29, 1952.
Emelyn and Darwin lived in Dublin until 1961 when they moved to their farm. Emelyn was a mother and housewife until they purchased Deluxe Cleaners in 1972 and soon after purchased Superior Laundry as well. Emelyn and Darwin attended Jefferson Street Baptist Church until they joined Rock Springs Baptist Church in 1974 and Emelyn went on to serve in the Sunday School at Rock Springs and also served as the Associational Sunday School Director for the Laurens County Baptist Association for a year or two.
Emelyn is survived by her two sons: Darwin "Hank" Henry Evans Jr. (Joy) and Glenn Emmett Evans (Cheryl); one grandson: Coye Evans; four step-grandchildren: Austin Park (Kyla), Crystalyn Park, Alan Baggett, and Dusty Baggett; three great-granddaughters: Grace Park, Finley Park, and Allie Baggett; three great-grandsons: Isaac Park, Maddox Woods, and Carter Woods; two sisters-in-law: Eunice Beckum and Frances (Edwin) Sharpe; her twin brother's daughter Laura Allmond Brown (Barry), and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Darwin Evans; her parents, William and Beatrice Allmond; her twin brother William Emmett Allmond; her brothers and sisters in law, Eloise Evans Coleman (Grover), Lorelle C. Evans (Leona); Carlos Beckum; and grandson Garrett William Park.
Visitation will be held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home, 215 West Jackson Street,
Dublin, GA, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11:00 am at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 2075 Rock Springs Rd,
Dublin, GA 31021, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are appreciated but contributions can also be made to the Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
