Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Emil Norbert "Scott" Harrold, 95, a longtime resident of the Skagit Valley, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 12, 2026.
Scott was born on April 19, 1930, in
Oak Harbor, Ohio, one of five children born to Jack and Edith Harrold. Growing up with his brothers and sisters, Scott developed a strong work ethic, a love for family, and an appreciation for the outdoors that would remain with him throughout his life.
As a young man, Scott proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, serving until 1960. His years in the military shaped his character and discipline, and after leaving the service he continued building a life of hard work and dedication.
Scott pursued a career as an electrician and became a member of the Alaska IBEW Local #1547 Union. While living in Anchorage, Alaska, he married Doris Mae Farr. Together they welcomed three beautiful daughters: Diana Lee Knutzen, Denise Lynn Williams, and Donna Marie Ackley. Not long after, the family made their home in Mount Vernon, Washington, where Scott would spend many of the years that followed.
Scott continued his career in the electrical industry with Snelson Co. Inc., where his leadership and dedication earned him the role of superintendent. Through years of commitment and hard work, he eventually rose to become Vice President under William Snelson. Scott retired in 1989 after a long and respected career.
Outside of work, Scott was happiest when he was outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved raising cattle, farming, and tending to his many garden beds. He took great pride in working the land and found joy in the simple rewards of growing things and caring for animals. Scott also deeply valued time spent with his children, especially supporting them in their 4-H projects, sharing his knowledge and encouraging their curiosity and independence.
Later in life, Scott found one of his greatest joys in being a grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them the things he cherished most-how to fish, how to swim, and how to appreciate the beauty and adventure found in the outdoors. These moments together created memories that will be treasured for generations.
In July of 1980, Scott married Norma J. Milholland. Together they shared many wonderful years filled with travel, laughter, and time spent with family and dear friends. Their life together was one of companionship, adventure, and shared love for the people around them.
Scott will be remembered for his strength, kindness, steady presence, and deep devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lessons he shared, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Norma J. Harrold; his daughters, Denise Lynn Williams and Donna Marie Ackley; his grandchildren, Tyler (Danielle) Ackley, Kash SanSaver, Shawn Lee Knutzen, BradLee Jess Knutzen, Steve (Lynda) Hagen, Gene (Char) Hagen, Sydna (Clark) Hagen and Victor Hagen; his great-grandchildren, Hazel, Eli and Emmet Ackley, Piper and Lennon Hystad.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Edith Harrold; his brothers, Richard and Ralph; his sisters, Kathryn and Lilas; his beloved daughter, Diana Lee Knutzen.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00, Monday, March 30, 2026, at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Roy Swihart officiating. A reception will follow.
