Emilia Calvo, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her daughters, at the age of 82. Born in Caibarién, Cuba, Emilia came to the United States at the age of 14, beginning a journey marked by resilience, love, and devotion to family. In her early 30s, she met the love of her life, Ivan, in Chicago. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising three daughters: Deborah, Jackie, and Linda. Emilia's greatest joy and purpose was being a mother. She poured her heart into raising her daughters with unconditional love, warmth, and tireless dedication. She was always present-picking them up from school, welcoming their friends with open arms, and staying up late to make sure they got home safely – quietly protecting us so our dad wouldn't worry (or get mad). Her full-time job was loving us, and she did it beautifully. Emilia adored her grandchildren deeply and cherished every moment spent with them. She loved playing with them, caring for them, and showering them with affection. She and our dad were inseparable. They danced through life together-from traveling to Colombia often, cruising the seas, dining out, and savoring every moment. Their love was deep and joyful, and when he passed in September 2021, a part of her went with him. In a loving and ironic way, our mom left us on September 23, 2025-my dad's birthday-as if to celebrate and dance with him once more. In her final years, we lovingly cared for her, just as she had always cared for us. She is survived by her three daughters, Deborah, Jackie, and Linda and her four grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Van Orsdel Kendall on Friday, September 26th from 6–9 PM. The burial and committal service will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery on Saturday, September 27th, at 10 AM.
