Emily Mosely Obituary

Emily C. Mosely, 83, passed away December 23, 2021, joining her heavenly family and gaining her wings. Mosely, born March 30, 1938, grew up in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, a quiet, quaint suburb of Pittsburgh.A meritorious student at Sewickley High School, Emily was active in many extracurricular activities: basketball, cheerleading and the National Honor Society to name a few. After highschool she attended Clarion Teachers College of Pennsylvania. While at a football game, Emily caught the eye of a player from Clarion’s biggest rival, California State Teachers College. Five years later, she ended up marrying that player, Fleming, her devoted husband of 57 years. After earning her bachelor's degree in education in 1960 at Clarion, Emily began her teaching career starting in Rochester, New York. She would soon continue in her profession in Ohio, first landing in the Cleveland Public Schools and then finding a permanent home at Lowell Elementary School with Lorain City School District.Emily loved molding young minds and she believed in teaching the whole child. She was such a phenomenal Kindergarten teacher that Lowell School never let her go. She remained at Lowell for the remainder of her illustrious teaching career which spanned 30 years. She instructed children in separate AM and PM classes with sometimes up to 35-40 children in each class. She was an active creative teacher who genuinely cared for her students who she commonly referred to as “her” kids. Emily was also committed to being a positive influence for novice teachers and mentored many peers until she retired in 1988. Even in retirement, she eagerly cared for her grandchildren and senior family members that needed a helping hand and a gentle touch. Her impact is felt in many parts of the community. Not only was she a founder of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated in Lorain County, but she also played an integral role in various service organizations throughout Lorain and Cleveland including Jack and Jill of America-Lorain County Chapter; Les Charmettes, the oldest African-American women’s organization in Lorain County; the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers where she was proclaimed an elder; and lastly, she was elemental in transforming the closed Harrison Elementary School building into the Harrison Cultural Community Centre where she served tirelessly as a trustee. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Calloway and Leona Logan and her beloved husband, Dr. Fleming J. Mosely III. However, Emily’s legacy of love will live on and sustain the hearts of many beginning with her sister, Constance Pickett; her son, Christopher and daughter-in-law, Jenny; her daughter Constance and son-in-law, Curtis; her son, Fleming IV and daughter-in-law, Carol; five glorious grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She will leave behind a legacy of service, love, laughter and endless devotion to her family, to her friends and to the well being of all of those around her. She will forever be in our hearts. Please join us in celebrating Emily's life this Friday January 7, 2022 at Carter Funeral Home (3001 Elyria Ave Lorain, OH 44055). Visitation will be held from 3:00pm - 5:30pm. Masks and social distancing are required. Hello, I can't believe Mrs. Emily is gone. My mother is Tamara Crumble and my Grandmother is Rose Echols. They were great friends of Mrs. Emily. We would come over from time to time to keep Mrs and Mrs Mosley company, sometimes cleaning when it got to much for the both of them. Their house was like a mansion to me it was the most fun I had being with them both and I love the things they taught me. I wanted everyone to me Mr and Mrs Mosley. I introduced my friends to her and my Husband. He got the privilege of being able to speak with Mr Mosely for a while before his passing. They both will be dearly missed. I hope all is the family are doing well. She loved all of you so dearly and was proud of all of you. I am so sorry for both of your losses.

I am so sadly stricken to see this. I has no idea. I spent many an hour with wonderful soul over the years. I feel this family was so much a part of my life through the stories of triumphs and challenges that she shared with me. I wrote a poem just for her.

MS. EMILY'S TREE

She wants us to understand, Family..
Has roots and branches, just as a tree,
In her home she gives honor to those who have passed,
Each with a history broad and vast,
Grandfather, mother, "Look close" she'd say
"At the rings of the tree that exist today",
She speaks of such ones so passionately,
For Ms Emily's very concerned you see
That the branches remember the roots of the tree.
"Now don't forget..You branches of this tree!
That they came from THEM...
And YOU come from ME"

Emily was a gracious and genteel lady. She always greeted you with a smile and a sincere compliment.
I will forever remember her as a petite, soft-spoken, cultured soror.

We are so sad to hear of our dear friend Emily´s passing. She was the epitome of educators.....always bringing out the best in her students. She and Fleming were wonderful mentors to Lydia and I. I still remember wallpapering her dining and living room with Fleming. She inspected every seam. We may have lost a true friend but heaven gained another angel and I am sure her and Fleming are already planning how they could help another Lorain child or family. God bless our dear friend.
