Emily Perronie Obituary

Emily Marie (Akers) Perronie, 88, of Greenville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025. She was born on July 31, 1937, in New Albany, to the late Benjamin, Sr. and Freda (Jennings) Akers. Emily’s educational accomplishments included graduating from Mount Carmel High School and the University of Louisville School of Nursing, where she developed a strong foundation for her career.

Throughout her life, Emily embraced a variety of interests and passions. She found great joy in making pottery alongside her husband, Joseph Perronie, Sr., who preceded her in death. Emily was also an avid drawer and cherished traveling, often finding pleasure in the simple joys of working on puzzles during quiet moments at home. Her love for genealogy research reflected her commitment to family heritage, and she relished the warmth and comfort of watching Hallmark movies as well as Matlock.

Above all else, Emily cherished her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, taking immense pride in her children and grandchildren. Emily is survived by her children, Jo Anne Wachtel (Daniel), Philip Perronie (Sandy), and Joseph Perronie, Jr. (Marti). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Ashley Geary (Danny), Daniel Wachtel, Jr., Brittany Slider (Sean), Cory Perronie (Kayla), Joshua Perronie, and Adam Perronie (May), as well as her beloved great-grandchildren: Hayley, Riley, Maverick, Bella, Lainey, Roman, Aubree, and Aria.

Emily also leaves behind her sister, Carolyn Mayes (Mike); sisters-in-law, Janice and Sandy Akers; a brother-in-law, Denny Fetz; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember her fondly. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her companion, Gerald Marker, and her siblings: Benjamin Akers, Jr., Robert Akers, and Sharon Fetz.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 3309 Ballard Lane in New Albany, continuing on Friday after 9:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
