Emily was a surprise to my aging parents when she was born. Her sudden death was a surprise to all of us, and so difficult to understand. But between those (now so brief ) years, she packed in a life of joy, loving, and giving to others. The Lord placed her in our family, what a gift from Him! A beautiful baby, she lit up our lives. So many sweet memories for us, God is Good. A devoted Christian, she walked the walk. Her best gifts were her presence in all occasions; her interest she showed in others; and her take charge -knowing to do things correctly. We will miss her. . We do know we are thankful to God for creating Heaven and the hope of His promise of eternal life. Emily's citizenship is secured in Heaven with our Savior, the Lord, Jesus Christ. To Tony, Jessie, Nathan, Kari, Finley and Jonathan, we will be there for you. Not to take Emily's place (because we can't), but to hold her memory by loving, helping, praying for you. The Lord, Our Savior, Jesus Christ has promised Joy in the morning, and we hold on to His promises. My brother (EDWIN), husband (Edward), and I (her sister, Martha), have been so blessed to have had Emily as a sister. To God be the glory of a life well lived.

I will never forget Judge Powell serving as a judge for our elementary school class's trip. She was a truly wonderful woman, with a truly wonderful family; it was apparent from a young age. The Powell family are in my prayers tonight.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Emilys husband, children and grandchildren. Emily was a classmate and friend throughout our school years in Richmond, VA. She was a devoted and caring friend. Though I have not seen Emily in many years, my heart aches knowing she is no longer physically with us.

Like a lot a people Im still in shock over the death of Judge Emily Powell. I didnt know her well but she was one of those people that you feel so comfortable around. She was genuine, kind, helpful and supportive of Law Enforcement but a very fair judge. She will be greatly missed.

Nathan and Jessie,
I remember you fondly as former students and I am so very sorry for your loss. Your mother was always encouraging to me as a young teacher and mother and I know she has had a positive impact on many others, as well. I pray for God's comfort, His peace, and the blessing of happy memories for your family. Love,
