Emmett Paige Jr.

Today the late Honorable Emmett Paige Jr. came to mind for some reason. General Paige was one of few mentors in my life. I visited him at OAO Corporation, before his nomination to Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence by President Clinton. It was the first time I saw him since the retirement ceremony. We discussed my career. I had three options, (1) OCS, (2) WOCS, and (3) OAO. He said whatever I decided, he would support me and keep in touch. Before departing, I mentioned that I was thinking about writing a book about him. Then Emmett Paige Jr. said . . .

I Met General Paige in 1985 When he presented me with the US Army Air Traffic Controller of The Year Award. I gave an acceptance speech and when I was finished, he was Smiling and made a statement and a demand. He said you have a gift soldier, and when you get home you need to look up the nearest Toast Masters Club and youll be great. Secondly, I want to know as soon as you put in your OCS packet. I separated from the military a few years later but I did work on my speaking skills and now in this turbulent time in our country I have written several pieces that fit these times. My Eldest Son says I have Billion dollar words( mixture of Malcolm and Martin philosophy) That can change the world. I just wanted him to hear what I am doing with the talent that he made me aware that I had. If this happens to find one of his family members. Thank God For Your Dad. PS. My father BG James R Ralph recently passed and I have been cleaning out his stuff. He served 35 years in the US Army. Today, I came across a Buffalo Soldier Statue and I firmly believe it it Emmett Paige. The Buffalo Soldier - winners of the old West! God works in mysterious ways so as I look at this statue I feel a strong pull for me to find Emmett's statue's resting place. I Know my father knew and worked with Emmett Paige. it was my honor to serve under his command at Fort huachuca during the 80s at Libby Army Airfield as a crew chief. He was an outstanding officer and a pleasure to take a board as a passenger during his many trips outside Fort Huachuca.

Had the pleasure of our paths crossing through out the years. Arizona, Fort Huachuca, Pentagon C3I, OAO.

LTG Paige my time with you at USAISC at Ft Huachuca as DCSOPS and Senior Training NCO for the command were priceless. You would call me from DC and talk to me about training or some other problem we had and always listened to what I had to say. I will always treasure those moments. May God Bless you and your family

I offer my sincere condolences to LTG Emmett Paiges family. Know that your father, grandfather and great grandfather had a profound effect on many people. He was one of the most influential men I have ever had the honor to know. We first met in 1972 when he was COL. Paige, commander of the 11th Signal Group and I was young GS-11 engineer at CEEIA. Then I served under him when he was the Commander of USACEEIA and then as Commander of USAAC. When he initiated the command-wide newspaper ACCent, I authored a number to technical articles which were printed in the paper and which he commented upon. I think he liked my intent more than the content! The month I hung up my hat after 30 years of government service, Assistant Secretary of Defense for C3I Paige agreed to give the keynote speech at the International Ionospheric Effects Symposium held in Washington DC. I felt very honored by that. I know many others have memories of him, as he made his presence known. In my estimation, Emmett Paige, Jr. was great leader and a wonderful human being. I am grateful for the chance I had to work for him and be inspired by him. I am very sorry for your loss.

heartbreak I am feeling right now, knowing you are no longer here with us. But I am finding some comfort in this
thought: thank you for letting me be one of the passengers on your Train of
Life. More importantly, I thank God for your journey here on Earth. Rest in

The Nation has lost a fierce warrior, a remarkable leader and a strong patriot that will not be forgot by those of us that were fortunate to served with this Great American over the many years. Sandra, Michael and Tony, your father was a national treasure. He served this country with distinction and with the utmost integrity. Some of the best years of my military career was when he was my direct boss. he was a prince, a jewel and a protector. God bless and keep you all 'til you meet him again.

Gen. Paige had the unique ability to provide great wisdom in every conversation. I can honestly say that I learned something new with each conversation. He was a national treasure.

LTG Paige...A great leader but overall he was a great man. RIP Sir!

Had the wonderful pleasure of playing in LTG Paige's golf foursome at FT. Huachuca his last 2 years there. He was a very nice person, GOD BLESS his family on the passing of LTG Paige.

LTG Paige was my commander in the Communications System Command , CSA, and allowed me to become a much better officer

When I think of how someone thought we'd be a good match, and I said 'no way'; but in the end not only did you become my boss, but you were my mentor and best friend. We worked so well together that I gained the nickname of 'Lil General'. Thanks for being my 'GP' and I'll forever be your 'Lil General'.....
