Emmitt Lee Cook, Sr., a cherished resident of McRae, Georgia, passed away peacefully at McRae Manor on September 30, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on September 8, 1927, in McRae, he lived a life filled with dedication, hard work, and devotion to his family and community.
Emmitt served his country honorably as a soldier in the Army, and after his military service, he took pride in various careers that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to provide for his loved ones. He contributed significantly to the local economy through his tenure in farming, as well as working with Barwick Furniture and American Yard Products. His legacy of industriousness is fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A devoted member of McRae First Baptist Church, Emmitt was an active deacon for an impressive 55 years, his faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his interactions and decisions as he endeavored to serve his church and community. Emmitt's contributions and unwavering faith will be missed by his fellow congregants.
Emmitt is survived by his beloved wife of 75 years, Helen Moore Cook, who remains in McRae; their son, Lee Cook of Milan; and two grandsons, Trippe Cook of McRae and Taylor Cook of Jasper, Florida. The love he shared with his family was profound, and they will carry forward the values and lessons he instilled in them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Cook and Dorcas Lancaster Cook, who laid the groundwork for the values Emmitt upheld throughout his lifetime.
As his family mourns the passing of this remarkable man, they also celebrate the many years of joy, love, and memories that he brought into their lives. Emmitt Lee Cook, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00A.M., Thursday, October 3, at McRae First Baptist Church with burial at Telfair Memorial Gardens. Visitation is one hour prior to the service.
