En-Jie Zhang Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wasson Funeral Home - Siloam Springs on Dec. 15, 2025.
En-Jie Zhang was born on January 24, 1932 in Shanghai, China to Mr. Su Zhang and Mrs. Su Zhen You Zhang. En-Jie's childhood coincided with the Japanese invasion and the Second Sino-Japanese War. Her family moved to Yunnan province before the war was over, and they settled on the outskirts of Kunming city. She and her parents lived through countless evacuations as the city sirens warned its citizenry of potential Japanese bombing attacks. The Chinese Communist Party took over China after WWII ended, and immediately the new government began to eradicate untrustworthy members of the society. Her father was among the captives because he was a devout Christian, and so much so he had garnered for himself a moniker of "Old Jesus" with the locals. He refused to denounce his faith in spite of the coercion of the ruling political power. To prison he went and eventually suffered martyrdom. En-Jie and her mother were expelled from their home, and their house was confiscated by the authorities.

In 1960 En-Jie married Samuel Ji, a marriage arranged by their fathers who shared the same faith and suffered the same fate. The Lord gave En-Jie and Samuel a daughter, and they named her Joy. All three of them became naturalized U.S. citizens in 2000 after the Lord miraculously brought them out of China one by one in 1986, 1988, and 1990.

To say that En-Jie was well acquainted with the vicissitude of life is an understatement. At a tender age she already learned how brief and brittle life could be. Her love for scripture taught her to put her trust in God alone and to hope in God always.

En-Jie was a hard worker and served her family diligently. She loved people with her actions and took care of their business as she would her own. She would ante up her endeavors to indemnify her insufficient communication abilities in English. The attention she rendered was always sincere, thorough, and orderly. En-Jie led an organized life that rivaled Marie Kondo's tidy-up method.

As the Lord so allowed, En-Jie began her struggle with dementia in 2014. The long journey ended on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, and she stepped into the presence of her maker, fully healed, and reunited with her family and friends who preceded her. She is sorely missed by Samuel and Joy and the rest of her extended family, as well as many friends near and far.
