Encarnacion "Ence" Z. Perez, a dedicated land surveyor and cherished lifelong member of the Skidmore community, passed away August 28, 2025, in Portland, Texas, following a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. He was 69.

Ence was born April 30, 1956, in Beeville, to Jose Perez and Elia (Zamora) Perez, who later welcomed Felipa Perez as his stepmother. He graduated from Skidmore-Tynan High School in 1976 and furthered his education at Bee County College. His professional career as a land surveyor with King & Petrus Inc. in Sinton allowed him to enjoy the great outdoors across South Texas, a job he loved deeply.

Ence will be fondly remembered for his shy but happy-go-lucky personality and his friendly smile. He was an avid sports fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, San Antonio Spurs and UT Longhorns and he cherished watching the games with his little brother and best friend, Joe. His passion for life extended to barbecuing, dove hunting with his son and grandchildren, and taking memorable road trips with them. Spoiling his grandchildren, Lilly, Adam "AJ" and Aaron, was among his greatest joys.

A special highlight in Ence’s life occurred in July of 1989 when he met the love of his life, Mary E. Longoria, who became his bride on May 14, 1993, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore. He also treasured the precious times they spent on cruises. Together, the couple built a beautiful life and family. Additionally, Ence enjoyed cooking and sharing time with his family and brothers-in-law, whom he loved dearly. As a young boy, he was a proud altar server at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Ence was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Elia Perez, as well as his stepmother, Felipa Perez and half-sister, Eva  Perez.

Left behind to cherish wonderful memories include his beloved wife of 36 years, Mary E. Perez of Skidmore; his son, Adam Encarnacion (Angelica) Perez of Skidmore; his grandchildren, Lilly, Adam “AJ” and Aaron Perez; his sisters, Dolores (Mario) Moreno of Beeville and Jo Rachel Reyes of Kyle; his brother, Joe (Christie) Perez of Portland; his parents-in-law, Porfirio “Pelo” and Elida Longoria of Skidmore; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Ence also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much as well as several cousins who were like brothers to him.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville with a Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore with Father Richard Gutierrez officiating. Ence will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.

As he embarks on this final journey, Ence will be honored by pallbearers Luis Diaz, Jake Perez, Jose Perez III, Matthew Moreno, Stephen Longoria Jr., Edward Longoria and Tony Longoria Jr.

His beloved grandsons, Adam Encarnacion Perez Jr. and Aaron Luis Perez, will serve as honorary pallbearers.
