Enrique Mata Obituary

Born in Moorhead, Minnesota, and raised in Crystal City, Texas, Enrique lived a life rooted in love, faith, and service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his deep sense of discipline, humility, and respect for others.
Enrique made his home in Carrizo Springs, where he was known for his kind heart, love for animals, and unwavering devotion to his family. He found joy in simple moments sharing laughter, telling stories, and spending time with those he loved most. He served as a Democratic
Chairman and volunteered with Neighborhood Housing Services for many years.
Enrique was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria T. Mata; his brothers Genaro Mata, Candelario Mata, Miguel Mata Jr., Adan Mata, Jose Mata Sr., and Esteban Mata; and his sister Eva Ochoa.
He is survived by his sons Enrique T. Mata Jr. and Fernando T. Mata; his brother Cruz Mata; and his sister Teresa Mata. Enrique also leaves behind eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews, who were the light of his life.
To his family, Enrique was a pillar of strength, a man whose quiet humor, loyalty, and compassion will never be forgotten. His memory will live on through the values he instilled, the love he shared, and the countless lives he touched.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Leonard Funeral Home in Carrizo Springs, Texas.
A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Carrizo Springs. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
