Eric Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dierna Funeral Home - Rochester on Jan. 2, 2026.
Eric Jerrod Davis, age 38, transitioned unexpectedly on December 19, 2025. Born on March 24, 1987,
Eric lived a life defined by deep devotion to family, perseverance through hardship, quiet wisdom, and
enduring love. Eric was a devoted and proud father of seven children who were the center of his world
and the greatest joy of his life. His children, listed from oldest to youngest, include Shyquan Davis,
Erielle Davis, Eric Davis Jr., London Davis, Eniya Davis, Tamir Davis, and Erica Davis. Everything
Eric did was motivated by his desire to protect, guide, and prepare his children for life. He believed
deeply in teaching awareness, responsibility, resilience, and self respect. His wisdom, both spoken
and lived, will continue to guide them.
Eric was the beloved son of Darren Toney and Sheila A. (Myron) Thomas. As the baby of his siblings,
he held a special place in the family. He was lovingly teased for his big head and for being inseparable
from his mother, always under her wherever she went, endearing symbols of the affection that
surrounded him.
In his early years, Eric discovered a passion for boxing. For a time, he dedicated himself to the sport
and excelled, showing discipline, focus, and natural ability. Though his journey in boxing was brief, it
reflected traits that stayed with him throughout his life including determination, grit, and the willingness
to fight for what mattered.
Eric was a hard worker who held many jobs throughout his life. He spent more than ten years at the
University Rochester Medical Center in the Transportation Department, where he built strong
relationships and was well liked by coworkers. Eric found joy in cooking and took pride in preparing
meals for those he loved. He also enjoyed playing video games online with his uncles, brothers, and
cousins. These connections brought laughter, competition, and meaningful bonding. Known for his
humor and playful spirit, Eric also possessed a thoughtful and philosophical side. Those who truly
knew him remember conversations marked by depth, reflection, and insight, moments that linger long
after the words were spoken.
Eric will be remembered for his love, his work ethic, his humor, and the wisdom he passed down to
his children. His presence will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. His legacy lives on
through the lives he shaped and the love he gave freely.
Eric Jerrod Davis was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rosa C Toney; his
paternal grandfather, Mr. Sylvester Toney; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mamie C McLarty, and his
maternal grandfather, Horace Carr Jr. He was also preceded in death by his uncles, Arthur Toney and
Earl Toney, and his aunt, Phyllis Toney.
Eric is survived by his seven children; his parents; his maternal grandfather, Mr. Franklin McLarty; and
his siblings: Jevon Reid, Devery Reid, D. Levar (Demetrius) Davis, Latasha Wilson, Keith Toney,
Marshay Smith, Jeffrey (French) Toney, Demetrius Toney, Sinquest Toney, Daejohanna Toney,
Javeire Toney, and Starshay Toney. He is also survived by a large extended family and a circle of
friends who loved him deeply.
